Things to look out for

Generally occurs between the ages of 4 to 8 months when rapid growth is occuring

Limping on a forelimb

Condition appears to improve with rest but becomes worse after excercise

Although dog may present with lameness on only one leg, possibility of condition to be present in opposite leg aswell

What it can be caused by
Rapid growth - juvenile dogs are most commonly affected
Large and Giant breeds have a natural predisposition for the disease
Genetic predisposition for the disease
Gender, males are more commonly affected than females
Nutritional excesses, generally protein, calcium and phosphorous
Trauma to the joint
