Things to look out for

Sudden urge for dog to carry affected leg in the air, before shaking and stretching it and then generally regaining full use

Various stages and severity of pathology presents with varied symptoms

Young puppies with the condition may present with a "bow" legged appearance of the limb

Large breeds with the condition sometimes present with a knocked-in knee appearance

More severe cases may present with constant lameness

What it can be caused by

Genetic predisposition
Malformation of other accosicated joints and or bones
Develops secondary to another limb disorder
Abnormal conformation of the hip joint
An abnormally long patella ligament
